Secretary of State-Elect Steve Simon
names Jake Spano as new Chief of Staff

Cites Spano’s extensive private and public sector experience

Incoming Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon has appointed Jake Spano to be his Chief of Staff. Simon made the decision based on Spano’s extensive private and public sector background.

Spano currently serves as the Director of Marketing for the City of Saint Paul in Mayor Chris Coleman’s administration. Before that, he worked in the office of U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar as State Policy Director, Deputy State Director, and State Director. Prior to his public service he worked as a project manager and account executive in the architecture and design industry, leading multi-million dollar projects. Spano received his undergraduate from Hamline University in Saint Paul and his Masters from the University of Minnesota – Duluth.

Jake has seen the administration of elections firsthand through his experience in municipal government. He has also led people and organizations with great success,” Simon noted. “He has strong relationships all over Minnesota, and I look forward to having him help lead a great team.”

I look forward to helping Secretary of State–Elect Simon to make voting as easy and accessible as possible, to ensure fast and efficient business services, and to serve all Minnesotans,” Spano said. “I’ve known him for some time now, and have always been impressed with his intellect and his work ethic. I’m honored to be joining his administration.”

Simon will be sworn in as Minnesota’s 22nd Secretary of State at noon on January 5th, 2015 at the Landmark Center in Saint Paul.
